Guided by China’s goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, Hubei Three Gorges Laboratory builds on the strengths of the modern chemical industry while addressing the frontiers of global chemical science and technology, major national strategic priorities, and the needs of the real economy.
The Laboratory’s mission is to strengthen the chemical industry’s capacity for original innovation and overcome critical technological bottlenecks that constrain industrial development. Its principal research areas include:
Pollution Prevention and Comprehensive Utilization of Phosphogypsum
Critical Chemicals for Microelectronics
Advanced Phosphorus-Based Chemicals and Applications
Basic Silicon-Based Chemicals and Applications
Mission and Strategic Positioning
Hubei Three Gorges Laboratory was established with the approval of the People’s Government of Hubei Province. Led by Hubei Xingfa Chemicals Group Co., Ltd., the Laboratory was jointly founded by the Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Wuhan Institute of Technology; China Three Gorges University; Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; China University of Geosciences (Wuhan); Huazhong University of Science and Technology; Wuhan University; Sichuan University; Wuhan University of Technology; South-Central Minzu University; Hubei Yihua Group Co., Ltd.,and Hubei University of education .The Laboratory is based at the Xingfa Group R&D Center in Xiaoting District, Yichang, Hubei Province.
Over the next three years, the Laboratory will pursue breakthroughs in critical chemicals for microelectronics, advanced phosphorus-based chemicals, and materials for new-energy technologies. It will develop leading production technologies for basic silicon-based chemicals, while extending and upgrading the associated industrial value chains.
The Laboratory will promote greener chemical processes across these sectors and seek major advances in the comprehensive utilization of phosphogypsum. It will also establish integrated systems combining chemical process equipment with intelligent control and foster the development of high-quality chemical industry clusters.
By integrating basic research, applied basic research, and the development of critical technologies for industrialization, the Laboratory aims to become a leading innovation hub and a center for attracting outstanding professionals in chemical science and engineering, thereby supporting the development of a globally significant fine chemicals hub.
Vision and Development Plan
The Laboratory conducts basic research, applied basic research, and the development of critical technologies for industrial application. Through these efforts, it aims to advance the development of Hubei’s modern chemical industry into a trillion-yuan industrial cluster and strengthen the core competitiveness of China’s modern chemical sector.
